The Burnt Toast Method

They say the best way to prevent a hangover is to not drink at all. I prefer the method of drinking so much you wake up drunk. Hey, you're not hungover, right?
While I am no organic chemist, I do remember a few things from high school chemistry. Particularly, I remember that Carbon rings (a.k.a. the blackness on burnt toast) work great to absorb other chemicals, especially those toxins that make Saturday and Sunday mornings yucky.
I initially inadvertently tried the Burnt Toast Method (BTM) last week while at dinner. I intentionally executed BTM yesterday morning. It worked like magic, although it didn't taste the best. I now swear by the BTM.
Here are the steps:
- Drink in excess, preferably in the company of friends or debutantes.
- Wake up the next morning with a splitting headache, groggy, and exhausted.
- Stumble to cupboard or cafeteria.
- Burn toast with vigor (some black but not completely cardboard).
- Apply a dressing of some sort. I prefer a burnt bagel with cream cheese.
- Observe as your hangover disappears at a significantly quicker pace.
- Start drinking again.

Very good idea, although the thought of eating blackened toast/bagel makes my mouth hurt.
Huh, and I was eating burnt toast for fun all these years.

[...] Good morning everyboday. How are you feeling this fine Saturday morning/afternoon? Perhaps thou shouldest consider the Burnt Toast Method. [...]
It's an interesting suggestion I would caution you that the charred bits on any food contain cancer-causing chemicals. You may want to limit the amount of charred stuff you eat. :-)

The carbon will only absorb toxins that are still in you stomach. It's like Activated Charcoal, for poisonings, it will only work while things are still in your stomach. Once they move into the blood stream, burnt toast won't be of much help. You could try eating the toast before you start drinking, but I can't imagine either way having any real effect.
I think that you expect it to absorb bad toxins and end up with the placebo effect. I agree with Jeremy the only way it MIGHT work is before, during or immediantly after drinking. How much could be left in that empty stomach the next day? You can rid yourself of a lot of the toxins by a big huge dump.
Yeah....i think that burnt stuff on toast is carcinogenic.
Burnt toast doesn't work. First of all, the carbon on burnt toast is not the same thing as activated charcoal. Secondly, even if it was, it still wouldn't help because activated charcoal only sops up toxins in your stomach or gut. The alcohol and acetaldehyde (breakdown product that causes hangover symptoms) is in your BLOOD. You're better off having eggs and fruit juice in the morning to replenish the cysteine in your liver that helps detoxify alcohol, and all the vitamins you peed out the night before. Plus salty scrambled eggs taste a lot better than burnt toast.
Don't underestimate the placebo effect... just keep telling yourself that the burnt toast method works!
I can't see this working either, but I am willing to give it a try as I love a lot of my food (steak, toast, chicken, bacon) overcooked
Prozac drug interactions....
Prozac menopause. Phentermine prozac. Withdrawal from prozac blood in urine. Phentermine and prozac. Prozac....
I ate a little piece of burn toast when i started drinking last night and i dont feel hung over yet and its 10AM and I blacked out and dont remember anything. So it might work I'll write more later and tell u if I am hung over, but i probably wont be cuz im about to smoke some volcano bowls and that always helps
Another way of preventing hangovers is consuming a table spoon of oil before drinking. Personally I have never tried it before but I was told it works.
Whatever happened to the old fashioned way of getting rid of hangovers? If you are hungover, simply start drinking again, sure the first or second beer is going to go down rough, but after that your hangover is gone. You get hungover because your body is going through withdrawals of not having alcohol, give your body what it wants and you will be cured, at least, until next morning.

Ingenious! Do you have a patent on this?
you can just go to an alternative medicine shop and buy charcoal capsules. take a couple before you drink and a couple after. ive been using them for hangovers since high school.
Wow why didn't i think of that this morning. Got a party tomorrow and there is a lot of boost so i probably will get hammered. Shall experiment the Burn Toast Method and post it later on!

glycolic,
dont burn your steaks, if youre gonna kill it *also known to you non-chefs as burn it to hell* dont buy a steak! its not worth it. buy urself some quality jerkey. the 20$ difference will be miraculously worth it. buy alcohol with that, and test the BTM for some research purposes and tell us how it goes.
p.s.
best hangover preventor, stay awake until no longer drunk, or only kinda
pop an anti acid and a 3mg melatonin
pass ouuuuutttttttttt
wake up drink massive ammounts of Gatorade and throw in a seltzer in the middle
its said that the CO2 makes your bodies absorb water/hydrate better
melatonin is a natural sleep aid oral supplement bought at most cvs/rite aid/duane reade/walgreen type deals
WORTH IT
p.p.s. use melatonin to develop a good sleeping pattern and then stop taking them, your body will thank you for a regular sleep schedule
I think this works great! I just set some toast on fire this morning n now we r ready to pack the cooler n head to the beach. For all you doctor nurses out there, stop worrying so much about science n shit. Sometimes it's safer to play it fast n loose n see how it all shakes out :) cheers!
