Just Launched: Discuss Campus!
Tuesday, November 3, 2009 by
Kelly Sutton As of this morning, Discuss Campus is officially online! Given its crowd-sourced nature, it needs participation to be useful. And that's where you come in.
Head on over and create an account. If you know the answers to some of the questions, give them an answer! As time moves forward, we'll be finding clever ways of rewarding the top users (as tracked by reputation). If you would like more information about Discuss Campus, read yesterday's post.
We're pumped!
If you want to jump right in and start editing, take a look at some of these questions currently posted:

Hmm, it's not yet working for me. It still directs me to a coming soon page, even after clearing my cache and flushing my DNS. If I try clicking on one of the above questions, I get a 404.
So this is gonna be like a Yahoo! Answers for college student issues?
I'm having trouble with loading the page as well, same as above.
Unfortunately, the DNS thing is something that you don't have any control over. If you're on campus, you might be subject to their DNS servers that could take a while to update.
You can get a sense of what the DNS is doing if you run the following command on the command line (Mac/Linux):
dig discusscampus.com
The IP address buried in the response should be 64.34.80.165. If you see 67.207.143.43, that means your DNS server has not received the new address yet. If you see any other IP address, the site is being cached by another (evil) server somewhere. Usually everything gets updated within 48 hours.
I change the DNS record about 24 hours ago, so most everyone should be seeing it by now...
This is awesome. Too bad the website is down though.
The layout on the website looks like something my nine-year-old sister would be browsing? Is there any chance that you guys will give it a major makeover?

Probably not anytime soon. Purple is so hot right now.
Try to have summer camps in your campus!
