Our Major-Related Tumblr Tuesday Picks

Screenshot o' the Tumblr Directory. Check it out, yo!If you have a Tumblr, then you probably know that today is Tumblr Tuesday, when its users recommend all their favorite blogs of late. While there are the always popular users, like the internet culture blog, The Daily What, and print-turn-digital outfits, The New Yorker and Newsweek, there are also many specialty blogs that have content close to what you're studying in your major. Here are a few of them:

Psychology: NeuroLove

Depending on your school of thought you may either love or hate this blog. It's a few posts a week about the brain and all the wonderful things it does.

History: Dead Presidents

This is fairly specific blog, as it only focuses on presidents, but, there certainly isn't a lack of information. There are a few posts everyday ranging from really well asked and answer questions, to what some presidents said about others.

Chemistry: FuckYeahChemistry

I don't know a lot of chemistry majors, personally. I imagine they have their head in the books a decent amount, probably more than the average college student. So, FuckYeahChemistry sets out to test your knowledge as well as titillate you with funny Chemistry-related comics.

Political Science: Robert Reich

You know the saying, opinion are like buttholes everyone's got one. It seems as though Robert Reich's opinions might hold a little more sway. He is a professor at the University of California at Berkeley and has served under three national administrations. His succinct posts will give you unique point of view, having worked with presidents and all.

Thanks for tuning in! Let me know if you like this Tumblr-related post by commenting below or connecting with me on Twitter.

Five of Life's Little Instructions

Image via ThomasNelson.com
When H. Jackson Brown Jr. was sending his son off to school, he left him with a list of instructions. They were all little lifehacks if you will to help him be a happy and successful adult. There are a few of these instructions that are worth highlighting and if you enjoy this post feel free to purchase the book here. I highly recommend it!

Summer DIY Project: Mini-Skeeball

I found this one under "Office Supplies" on Instructables. This awesome makeshift mini-skeeball game is an awesome idea for your dorm or apartment. It's simple, in that it doesn't require many materials and the only tool you'll need to complete it is an Xacto knife, glue, cardboard, a paper cup and a pencil.

Your friends can come into your room and have something awesome to do if you are knee deep in something else, like homework, a game of Call of Duty or Edward 40 Hands. Come to think of it, you could probably make a drinking game out of this contraption.

How about this, you could either label the different shots with different drinks or, have the score relate to how much you drink. Go ahead and be the MacGyvers of college and make a drinking game out of whatever you can find.

Is this something you would make? Comment below to share!

Maryland Community College Starts Midnight Madness

This class is bound to have some goners. Image via Flickr User bigarnex. Licensed under CC v2.0.Okay, back in high school I remember my English teach showing us a clip of Andy Rooney talking about his view of the future. It was a planet that was constantly lit and people working in shifts because of over population.

After reading a post at the Huffington Post's college site, I can tell you that that day is closer than you may think. A Maryland community college, Anne Arundel Community College has a new class for its students to register for. The class starts at midnight and goes to three in morning. Here's the link:

Md. College To Offer Midnight Psychology Class

In a way this is good. It's giving students who are night owls chance to truly grow to their full potential. If Anne Arundel has a plethora of them and this pilot program is a success look forward to a bunch of midnight classes and the fulfillment of the prophet Andy Rooney's prediction.

Would you sign up for a class that started at midnight? Comment below to share or connect with me on Twitter!

Review: Lenovo A63

Over the last few month I have had the pleasure of using the Lenovo A63 as my main computer. There are a few things I like about this rig, and a few things I don't.  Full Disclosure: This was out on long term loan and is going to be given out to one lucky HackCollege reader in a giveaway to be decided on later. Woo, now let's get into this machine.

You could have this! Image courtesy Lenovo.

Pros

After putting this computer through the paces of the daily college routine for about a month there are a bunch of things that make this small business workstation work for students, but I'm just going to talk about a few. First, it's pretty powerful. Second, it's pretty quiet and third, the screens are effing huge!

Library of Congress Cataloging Public Tweets

Your tweets, we haz them. Image via Flickr user okbends. Licensed Under CC v2.0. Wow, I don't know what to think about this. Last week the Library of Congress tweet (of all things) that it would be cataloging all public tweets from March 2006. LOLWUT. The Chronicle of Higher Educations Wired Blog. It's mad cool, because we have an written history of millions of people and their day to day interactions. Here's the article:

Twitter Makes It Into the Historical Record

Could tweets be counted on as a viable resource for a paper? Who knows, regardless I'm a bit worried people in the future thinking we worship Justin Bieber as our savior.

Are you happy your tweets (possibly drunken) will be a part of history?
